The team lost 5 contributing seniors from last year and many expected this to be a rebuilding year. With key returners and some young talent coming up from the Modified level, the Steeler Nine have other ideas.

The team opened its season with a 13-1 win over Maritime Charter Academy. Leading the Steelers on the mound was Alex Rodriguez. Alex (a returning All-WNY player from last year) pitched 4 strong innings, striking out 11 batters and not giving up a hit while giving up 2 walks. One of his walks was erased when younger brother Matt Rodriguez hosed down a runner attempting to steal 2nd base with a laser-like throw where shortstop Andrew Sarick did not have to even move his glove.

Leading the offense was Matt Rodriguez with a 3-run HR in the third inning. Also having big offensive days for the Steelers were Drew Kowalski, Jovan Lopez, Hunter Wittmer and Tyler Kinsley with 2 hits apiece. Tyree Wallace, Matt Bender and Jaivian Morales all chipped in RBI's for the Steelers.

The team plays home against JFK on Wednesday, April 10 and on Friday, April 12 against Cleveland Hill.

Go Steelers!
