Dear Lackawanna High School Families,
It gives me great sorrow to tell you about the death over the weekend of one of our twelfth-grade students, Alpha Barry. He will be missed both inside and outside the walls of our school, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family.
Our school community will remember his beautiful smile, playful humor and the joy he brought to all who knew him. He was a true anchor in his group of friends, and his absence will be felt deeply by many. With just weeks to go until graduation, he was looking forward to his future and had enlisted in the Marines.
It is very difficult for all of us to face the death of a young person. Your children may be confronted with a variety of emotions which might include shock, sadness, and confusion. A support team of psychologists, counselors and social workers will be available at Lackawanna High School to provide counseling and support to students and staff.
Please be sensitive to any changes in your child’s behavior over the next few days. Encourage your child to express his or her feelings and listen attentively. Please feel free to contact the school if you have an issue you would like to discuss.
We are here to support you and your child. Again, do not hesitate to contact me at 716-821-5610 ext. 7775 if you have any concerns or questions.
Sincerely,
Nadia Nashir
Superintendent of Schools
