Last Thursday, 30 juniors and seniors attended the 17th Annual Western New York Construction Career Day at the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 17 Training Center. Our students proudly represented Lackawanna and had an incredible time engaging with local skilled trades professionals who encouraged them to explore the many career opportunities available after graduation.
Students got hands-on experience cutting steel with welders, laying brick, pouring concrete and operating heavy machinery such as skid steers. They also picked up valuable insights, like the proper way to hold a hammer!
As more students express interest in skilled trades during senior college and career meetings, this event provided a meaningful opportunity to explore those pathways firsthand. The experience inspired many to see the trades not just as jobs, but as fulfilling and accessible career options for their future.
